Glass fiber filters are used for filtering impurities such as dross, slag, refractory particles and non-metallic inclusions from molten metals and their alloys during casting production in foundries. Foundry filters are used extensively in the casting of aluminium, tin, lead, zinc, and magnesium in the following applications:
• Gravity die-casting
• Sand-mould casting
• Shell-mould casting
• Investment casting
• Low-pressure die casting

Filter cloths are made of woven refractory glass cloths, although they reduce turbulence, compared with Ceramic foam filters, they have a low filtering efficiency and a small open area (typically 25%) which acts as a severe choke in the running system.

The filter screen can be cut into any size of blocks with scissors, placed under the gate cup, on the overlapping surface of the transverse gate, and tightly pressed onto the platform box on the arch joint surface of the transverse gate and the inner gate. When using the filter screen, it is important to avoid diagonal pulling, wear, and breakage. The size of the cut filter screen block should be 20-30mm larger than the cross-sectional size of the runner.
